Glossary
Attribute — A column on a table. Has a name, a datatype and optional constraints, or points at a domain table.
AUTO — A code generation setting. Grunddata generates the record’s
Code; users never supply it. A table with AUTO cannot be used as a domain table.
Cascade — A domain attribute whose candidate values are filtered by the value chosen in
another domain attribute on the same row. For example region filtered by country.
Code — A built-in field on every record. A short business key such as SEK or 1200.
Mandatory on MANUAL tables, generated on AUTO tables. See
Identifiers.
Code generation — A table setting, AUTO or MANUAL, that decides how Code and Name
behave and whether the table can serve as a domain table.
Commit — One save operation, covering one record or thousands. Has an author, a timestamp and a message. See Commits and versions.
Dirty row — In the Google Sheets add-on, a row you have edited locally that has not yet been uploaded. Shown in orange.
Domain table — A table used as a lookup. Must have code generation
MANUAL. See Domain tables.
Entity set — The OData name of a view. What you see in the Power BI or Excel navigator.
id — The identifier of a single version row. Changes with each version. Not usually
what you want — see source_id.
is_deleted — A flag on a record version marking a soft delete. The record disappears
from listings, downloads and OData, but its history remains.
MANUAL — A code generation setting. The user supplies Code and
Name, both mandatory. Required for a table to be usable as a domain table.
Model — The top-level grouping of tables. See Models.
Name — A built-in field on every record. A readable label such as Swedish krona.
Mandatory on MANUAL tables.
OData — The read-only protocol Grunddata uses to publish views to Excel, Power Query and Power BI.
Precision / Scale — Settings on a decimal attribute. Precision is the total number of
digits; scale is the number of digits after the decimal point.
Pretty value — The readable label shown for a domain attribute (SEK - Swedish krona),
resolved from the stored source_id at display time.
Record — A row in a table. See Records.
Record audit — The log of every write attempt, successful or not, with a status and a message. See Record audit and errors.
Required — An attribute property making the field mandatory. Applies only to records created or updated after the setting was enabled.
Soft delete — Deleting by appending a version flagged is_deleted, rather than removing
data. Grunddata deletes are always soft.
source_id — The permanent UUID identity of a model, table, attribute, view or record.
Never changes, survives renames, and is what every reference points at. The single most
important identifier in Grunddata. See Identifiers.
System field — A field a view can expose that is not one of your
attributes: SourceId, Code, Name, Version or CreatedAt.
Table — The object that holds records. Lives inside one model. See Tables.
Tag — A free-form label on a model or table, used for filtering the catalogue and for access control. See Tags.
Unique — An attribute property preventing two records from sharing the same value. Can only be enabled if existing data is already unique.
Validation — A rule applied when a record is saved, expressed as JSON Schema. Can be attached to an attribute or to a table. See Validations.
Version — The revision number of a record, starting at 1 and incrementing on every change.
View — A named, stable contract over a table, published as an OData entity set. See Views.
